How Are the Top 100 Cryptocurrencies Ranked?

Cryptocurrencies are commonly ranked by market capitalization rather than by the price of a single coin or token. Market capitalization estimates the total market value of the cryptocurrency’s circulating supply.

Market capitalization formula
Market Cap = Current Price × Circulating Supply

A cryptocurrency with a lower price per token can therefore have a much larger market capitalization than a cryptocurrency with a high unit price.

For example, a cryptocurrency trading at $0.50 with 100 billion tokens in circulation would have a $50 billion market capitalization. Another cryptocurrency trading at $1,000 with only one million coins in circulation would have a market cap of $1 billion.

What Does the Top 100 Crypto Table Show?

The ranking combines several market metrics that can help you compare cryptocurrencies beyond their individual token prices.

PRICE

Crypto Price

The current market price of one coin or token. A low token price does not necessarily mean that a cryptocurrency has a low valuation.

MARKET CAP

Market Capitalization

The current price multiplied by circulating supply. This is the primary metric used to rank cryptocurrencies in the table.

VOLUME

24-Hour Volume

The reported value of cryptocurrency traded during the previous 24 hours, providing an indication of recent trading activity.

SUPPLY

Circulating Supply

The number of coins or tokens considered to be circulating in the market at the time the data is reported.

24H

24-Hour Change

The percentage change in the cryptocurrency’s market price over the previous 24 hours.

Crypto Price vs Market Cap: What Is the Difference?

The price of a cryptocurrency tells you how much one unit costs. Market capitalization instead estimates the value of all circulating units combined.

This distinction is particularly important when comparing cryptocurrencies with very different supplies. A token priced at a fraction of a dollar can already have a multi-billion-dollar market capitalization if billions or trillions of tokens are circulating.

Example
Price: $0.10 × Supply: 100 billion = $10 billion market cap

The $0.10 unit price alone does not tell you whether the cryptocurrency is small or large relative to the rest of the market.

Why Do Cryptocurrency Rankings Change?

The Top 100 is not a permanent list. Cryptocurrency rankings can change whenever prices or circulating supplies change.

If the price of one cryptocurrency rises faster than another, its market capitalization may become larger and it can move higher in the ranking. Falling prices can have the opposite effect.

  • Cryptocurrency prices change continuously.
  • Circulating supply can increase through mining, emissions or token unlocks.
  • Token burns can reduce supply in some cryptocurrencies.
  • New cryptocurrencies can enter the largest 100 assets by market capitalization.
  • Existing cryptocurrencies can fall outside the Top 100.

For this reason, a cryptocurrency’s rank should be treated as a current market snapshot rather than a permanent measure of its importance or future performance.

Why Does Circulating Supply Matter?

Circulating supply is an essential part of cryptocurrency valuation because it determines how many units are included in the standard market-cap calculation.

Two cryptocurrencies can have exactly the same market capitalization while having dramatically different prices per token simply because their circulating supplies are different.

Implied price
Price = Market Cap ÷ Circulating Supply

This relationship is also why very large price targets should be evaluated together with supply and the market capitalization they would imply.

Large-Cap vs Mid-Cap vs Small-Cap Cryptocurrencies

Terms such as large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap are often used to describe the relative size of cryptocurrencies. Unlike the ranking itself, however, there is no single universal market-cap threshold that permanently defines these categories across the crypto market.

Market conditions change substantially over time, so it is often more useful to compare a cryptocurrency’s market capitalization and ranking directly with other assets than to rely only on a fixed category label.

What Does 24-Hour Crypto Volume Mean?

24-hour trading volume measures reported trading activity over the previous 24 hours. It can provide useful context about how actively a cryptocurrency is being traded.

Volume and market capitalization measure different things. Market cap represents an estimated market valuation, while trading volume represents activity over a period of time.

MARKET CAP

Market Value

Price multiplied by circulating supply at a particular point in time.

VOLUME

Trading Activity

The reported value of trading activity during a specified period, such as 24 hours.

CHANGE

Price Performance

The percentage movement in price over a specified period, such as the previous 24 hours.

About the Cryptocurrency Market Data

Cryptocurrency prices, rankings, market capitalization, trading volume and supply figures can change continuously. Values displayed in the Top 100 table should therefore be treated as a current market snapshot rather than permanent figures.

Different market-data providers and exchanges can also report slightly different prices or metrics because cryptocurrency trading takes place across multiple markets.

Top 100 Cryptocurrencies FAQ

What are the top 100 cryptocurrencies?

The Top 100 generally refers to the 100 largest cryptocurrencies when ranked by market capitalization. Because prices and circulating supplies change, the cryptocurrencies included in the ranking can also change over time.

How are cryptocurrencies ranked?

Crypto market rankings commonly use market capitalization, calculated by multiplying the current cryptocurrency price by its circulating supply.

What is the largest cryptocurrency by market cap?

The ranking at the top of this page shows the current ordering based on the market data supplied to the table. Because cryptocurrency valuations change continuously, the live table should be used rather than a hardcoded ranking in the page text.

Does a cheap crypto price mean the cryptocurrency is undervalued?

No. A low price per token does not by itself indicate a low valuation. Circulating supply must also be considered because market capitalization is determined by both price and supply.

What is cryptocurrency market capitalization?

Market capitalization is calculated by multiplying a cryptocurrency’s current price by its circulating supply. It provides a way to compare the relative market value of different cryptocurrencies.

Why does a cryptocurrency move up or down the rankings?

A cryptocurrency’s ranking can change when its market capitalization changes relative to other cryptocurrencies. Price movements and changes in circulating supply can both affect market cap.

How often do crypto prices change?

Cryptocurrency markets trade continuously, so market prices can change at any time. The exact update frequency displayed on this page depends on the market-data source and the table plugin’s refresh or caching configuration.

Is a higher market cap always better?

No. Market capitalization is a measure of relative market value, not a guarantee of quality, safety or future performance. Other characteristics such as liquidity, supply structure, utility, decentralization and project-specific risks may also be relevant.
